GM,Malibu presented at the Shanghai Motor Show today, the global debut today, and will make its American introduction of the New York Auto Show this week. Although new, it runs into an improved version of the current Malibu, which is delayed by intensely competitive mid-size segment.
"The current Malibu ... has changed the way people think about Chevrolet," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of marketing for Chevrolet. "This new Malibu offers on the intangibles of Malibu today, but still gives more customers. More style, energy efficiency, content and functionality, craftsmanship, and dynamic capabilities rivaling luxury sedan"
How is it different?:
• A new, more fuel efficient and more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
• Expressive exterior design, with a large athletic position
• Improved aerodynamics. Chevy says they are almost as good as the Chevrolet Volt extended range electric car, which depends on the wind cutting out every inch per gallon.
• A new and elegant interior with more space and quality materials.
• The new Chevrolet MyLink connectivity to compete with the Ford Sync system. Both give you the opportunity to motorists to bypass online streaming services like Pandora Internet radio and Stitcher.
• European-inspired tower features and handling
• Ten airbags and other safety touches like high-strength steel, Lane Departure Warning / forward collision warning and Reversing Camera System
As the new version with high gas mileage of the compact Chevrolet Cruze, the Malibu is a system without the shutters in front of the open or closed to try to make the car more aerodynamic when the engine needs more air cooling.
